Pisa's Museo delle Sinopie (Sinopie Museum) contains many extremely interesting collections and pictures. Of particular interest at the Museo delle Sinopie are the famous Sinopie sketches (a sinopia is a monochrome sketch over which a fresco is painted) that were found beneath the remains of the Camposanto's ruined frescoes.
The Pisa Sinopie Museum provides a real insight into the different approaches taken by Italian artists when creating these detailed paintings - some confidently sketched rough outlines, whilst other artists clearly spent much more time sketching the final picture in tremendous detail. Also illustrated in Pisa's Museo delle Sinopie (Sinopie Museum) are how many of the images changed between the initial sketch and the final painting.
